Gus: Can you cook Walter’s formula?
Gus: Walter’s formula. Can you produce his product, without any help? Alone?
Jesse: No. Why? You’re asking me if I can cook Mr. White’s crystal? Without him? Me? The junkie loser you were about to waste and dump in a desert a month ago? This is your plan, huh? Invite me in your house, make whatever this is, be my buddy and make me feel important?
Maybe it’s just me but I feel like Gus eventually had some level of respect (maybe not the right word) for Jesse. Walter and Jesse’s relationship is seriously complicated, but to be brief, Walter often tried to keep Jesse down, perhaps to keep Jesse dependent on him. I don’t know. I think Gus saw value in Jesse beyond just a “cook”. I wonder what things would’ve been like had Jesse sided with Gus instead of Walt. Of course Gus will eventually get rid of anyone he wants to or has to, but I felt like Gus was being truthful when he told Jesse he saw something in him.
